Welcome to Kanpur
Kanpur MapKanpur is one of the most populous states in India. Its population according to 2001 census is about 4 Million. It is also one of the industrial cities of India. The rich cultural heritage and the industrialization has attracted many people to visit the city. This article attempts to detail the location and overview of the Kanpur city.

Location:

Kanpur is about 80 Km from Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. Two main rivers flow in the City, the Ganges in the north-east and the Yamuna in the south. The four districts that surround Kanpur are Farukkabad in the North, Hamirpur in the South, Etawah in the West and Unnao in the East. The city is well connected with other major cities of Uttar Pradesh viz., Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi etc.

Overview:

The area of Kanpur is 1040 Sq Km and it is about 125 meters above sea level. The main language spoken here is Hindi. Next to Hindi, Urdu language is more widely spoken. The language of English is used for commercial purpose. Though the city hails from Hindi-speaking region, many Punjabis and Bengalis have settled here. People of the city practice all major religion. The climate of Kanpur is one of extreme cold during winter and is very hot in summer. The city will have an ideal weather condition from September to November, during which period most of the tourists visit this city. Kanpur is a place for many residential and migratory birds. Many rare species can be spotted in Bithoor, IIT Kanpur campus and the along side of Ganga canal.

Education:

The city boasts of many reputed educational institutions. Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur University and Government Central Textile Institute are some of them worth mentioning here.
