Kanpur University
Kanpur University was established by an act of the UP State Legislature in 1966. Before the establishment of this University, colleges in Kanpur were having affiliation with Agra University, which was overburdened because of this. Based on the recommendation of the Radhakrishnan Commission, the University was brought into existence. From the inception, the institution has never looked back.

Aim:

The main aims of the University have been to be keenly alive to the need of introducing qualitative changes in its character and to be evolving into a distinctive teaching and research centre. Towards this the services rendered by the Vice Chancellor of the University Padmashree Prof S.S. Katiyar are quite laudable. He made the transformation in 9 years out of the 30 years of its existence.

About the University:

Kanpur University is named after Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj and has been is in the map of higher education for more than 30 years. It has about 170 colleges under its affiliation spreading over 15 districts. The area of University Campus is 264 acres. Courses in all disciplines of Arts, Science, commerce, law, Engineering and medicine are offered by the affiliated colleges and Institutions. The specialty of the University program includes Life Science, Business Management, Education and English. It has 16 Departments on various faculties.

Future Plans:

Managed by the Board constituting the Chancellor, the vice- chancellor and executive council members, the University has an ambitious future plan. Under the future plan University college of Dental Sciences has already been started. The University has planned to open about 11 job oriented courses in bachelor and Post graduate level in Para Medical discipline. Keeping the importance of research and scientific Technology in mind, the University has planned to invite faculty from abroad and open up new channels of intellectual interaction for students.
